But most often, the UCS versions are much, much better than the next next non-UCS versions вЂ“ and a few, like the Snowspeeder UCS, Red Five X-Wing and Millenium Falcon, are the only versions that seem to perfectly match the movie designs.ДЄ-Wing Fighters (RZ-1 A-Wing Interceptors) made their appearance in The Return of the JediВ during the Battle of Endor as Green Squadron. A few UCS are nearly up-staged by their much less costly siblings, such as the Imperial Shuttle UCS and Slave I UCS in this case, there is nothing wrong with the UCS versions (except for their prices), but the best non-UCS versions ns are just really well done. Sometimes the UCS sets suffer from вЂњover designвЂќ, where the quest to make the proportions exactly match the movie versions tends to ruin the clean lines and overall design impression this is the case with all the UCS TIE sets.

But surprisingly, I donвЂ™t think that all of the UCS versions are superior to some of the smaller, more simple versions.

The Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) ships (starting in 2000 and continuing each year) are larger, more detailed and generally have more features across the board. The 2014 B-Wing and 2015 Imperial Shuttle Tydirium are two of the best non-UCS ship designs out there. Like prior generations, subsequent redesigns of these newest version would become somewhat incremental (aside from the UCS series).Дў013-2017 (75000-series) has seen the best sets and ships produced to date, with great attention to detail and proportions.

2007вЂ™s 7600-series sets produced some all-new ships, and some nice redesigns.Дў009-2011 saw several newly improved designs and started an era of ships and sets that were markedly better than all previous versions (with a few notable exceptions). Some of these redesigns are disappointing reworks or older designs, but a few sets started to show much better designs вЂ“ so kind of a mixed bag. Still, some designs represented a step up from the prior generations.Дў006 saw the 6200-series of new designs for some of the вЂњminorвЂќ ships, like the A-Wing and B-wing Fighters, TIE Interceptor and Slave I. Many of these sets are very basic, with moderately low piece counts, some odd color choices and limited stickers. Unless otherwise noted, these 2004 sets are identical to the 2003 versions. In 2004, Lego continued to make many of these sets, but switched from the вЂњblue boxвЂќ design to an Original Trilogy themed box design. In 2003, Lego released a large number of redesigned sets, most with the set numbers in the 4500-series.

These early child -like representations in some cases carried on into the 2003-2004 redesigns, which other were totally reworked. The earliest Millenium FalconвЂ™s and TIE Fighters, for example, were all pretty well done, while the X-Wings and a few other ships looked downright silly. Prior to 2003, most Lego Star Wars sets, and ship designs, were very basic, especially by todayвЂ™s standards. Let me know your thoughts, because I dontвЂ™t have all these sets! вЂњAnything in quotesвЂќ means itвЂ™s not the real name of the set. IвЂ™ve made a few comparative notes after each. IвЂ™m also including the often super-sized UCS versions.ДЇor the ships that come in multiple versions, IвЂ™m listing them top-down from вЂњbestвЂќ to worst in terms of accurate representation, playability, details, or even minifig differences.
